The New Hero Cannabinoids

The Rising Stars of Cannabinoids: CBG and CBN

CBG, often called the "godfather" of cannabinoids, is a fascinating compound at the core of cannabis's therapeutic potential. All cannabinoids present in cannabis trace back to its acidic form, cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), which serves as the precursor to most cannabinoid derivatives permitted in the Japanese market. Non-psychotropic and abundant in certain hemp strains, CBG is drawing increased attention for its remarkable properties.

One of the standout benefits of CBG is its significant antibiotic effect, even showing potential against the stubborn MRSA virus. Additionally, it has demonstrated the ability to reduce intraocular pressure, suggesting promise for those with glaucoma. In mouse studies, CBG has exhibited anti-tumor effects, particularly on melanoma cells, and has shown similar success against various cancer types in lab models. Like CBD, CBG possesses both analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, without the euphoria linked to THC, making it especially valuable for pharmaceutical companies interested in developing cannabis-based treatments for seniors and children. As research continues, CBG might very well become a staple in global medicine cabinets.

Then there's CBN, or cannabinol, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid present in trace amounts within the cannabis plant, typically found in higher levels in freshly harvested hemp. Although research on CBN remains limited, those who have used it often report its sedative effects. This cannabinoid interacts with both CB1 and CB2 receptors, with a preference for the latter, which is associated with immune system response.

CBN is also noted for its antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it valuable for people seeking relief from conditions like IBD, arthritis, and glaucoma. Researchers at the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine have even nicknamed CBN the “cancer-fighting cannabinoid,” anticipating that as research expands, we’ll uncover a more complete picture of its therapeutic potential.

Both CBG and CBN are cannabinoids to keep an eye on, as they may be key players in the future of medicine, offering solutions for complex health issues with minimal side effects.
